A: Schools established by Government bodies, or private schools run by registered Societies, Public Trusts, or non-profit Companies (under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013) are eligible. Private entities must be non-proprietary in character.

Q: How does a school apply for affiliation?

A: All applications must be submitted online through the CBSE portal (SARAS). Hard copy applications are not accepted.

Q: What are the main categories of affiliation a school can apply for?

A: Schools can apply for Approval of Middle Class Syllabus, Fresh Affiliation (Secondary or Senior Secondary level), Upgradation to a higher level, Switch Over from another board, or Extension of existing affiliation.

Q: Is a "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) mandatory?

A: Yes, schools generally require an NOC from their respective State or UT Education Department to apply for CBSE affiliation.

A: The standard requirement is 8000 square meters of contiguous land.

A: Secondary schools must have a Composite Science Lab. Senior Secondary schools require separate, well-equipped labs for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and other relevant subjects like Computer Science or Mathematics.

Q: What are the qualification requirements for hiring teachers?

A: Teachers must possess minimum qualifications as prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, typically a relevant degree plus a B.Ed. or equivalent.

Q: What are the salary norms for school staff?

A: Staff should be paid salaries and admissible allowances commensurate with those of corresponding categories of employees in the State or Central Government. Payment must be made via digital means (bank transfer), not cash.

Q: Is a School Management Committee (SMC) necessary?

A: Yes, every affiliated school must have an SMC constituted with representatives from parents, teachers, the trust/society, and educationists to oversee school governance.

A: Schools must possess and upload valid certificates for:

  1. Fire Safety (issued by the Fire Department).

  2. Building Safety (issued by a competent government engineer/authority).

  3. Safe Drinking Water and Sanitary Conditions (issued by the municipal or relevant health authority).

Q: What is the recommended teacher-student ratio?

A: The ideal overall teacher-student ratio should be 1:30.

Q: Can a school charge capitation fees or voluntary donations for admission?

A: No. Charging capitation fees in any form or accepting 'voluntary donations' for granting admission is strictly prohibited.
